Fence Installation in Cumberland County, TN

Cumberland County sits at the highest average elevation on our service map, roughly 1,890 feet, on the broad upland of the Cumberland Plateau. The terrain here is different from the rolling hills and river valleys elsewhere in the Upper Cumberland. Pennsylvanian sandstone caprock sits close to the surface across much of the county, which affects how deep and how easily a post hole goes in. We plan post spacing and footing depth around what the ground actually gives us on a given lot rather than assuming a standard dig.

The county is also home to the Obed Wild and Scenic River, a federally designated waterway with 45 miles of streams and gorges up to 500 feet deep. Properties near the Obed corridor or other Plateau drainage areas can have exposed rock or thin soil close to the surface, which we account for when quoting a job.

Crossville gets more winter weather than most of our service area, averaging 10 to 13 inches of snow a year compared to about 7 inches in Cookeville. That affects scheduling. Frozen or saturated ground in the coldest months can slow post-setting work, so we build installation timelines around the season instead of promising the same turnaround year-round.

Fairfield Glade and gated community rules

If your property is in Fairfield Glade, the rules are different from a standard county lot. Fairfield Glade is a gated golf and lake community governed by the Fairfield Glade Community Club Property Owners' Association. Fences are not permitted there unless approved in advance by the Architectural Control Committee, and above-ground electric fencing is banned outright. If you're in Fairfield Glade, plan on getting ACC approval before we install anything. Let us know early, and we'll help make sure the fence design you want is one the committee will actually approve.

Lake Tansi Village is a separate resort community with its own residential association, and Renegade Mountain is another established community in the county. If your property sits inside any association-governed neighborhood, check your HOA or POA documents before ordering a fence. We haven't found a specific ordinance for the area around the historic downtown courthouse. If you're near that part of Crossville, check with the city directly on any restrictions that might apply to your lot.

Permits in Cumberland County

Cumberland County has handled building codes and inspections on a county-wide basis since January 2024, through the Cumberland County Building Codes and Inspection Department. If your property is inside Crossville city limits, the City of Crossville Codes Enforcement office handles permitting instead.
